B.1

The Chair is informed by administration/becomes aware of an open committee position (or positions) for a faculty member (or members). The charge and term of service expectations should be communicated in the request as well as the number of committee seats that are being requested. Special skills preferred for members of the committee may also be shared.

B.2

The Chair directs department chairs to solicit interest from their departments. If adjunct faculty representation is requested the adjunct faculty member should work in concert with their chair to ensure they are not exceeding time requirements outlined in any UIU policies.

B.3

Department chairs communicate the candidates for the respective committee positions to the Chair and Vice Chair All candidates are subject to approval by majority vote of the eligible, full-time faculty, which includes cases where the number of names candidates submitted outweigh open positions. If no names are submitted to the Chair and Vice Chair, the process begins again.

B.4

When the results are finalized, the Chair will be responsible for notifying elected faculty members, the academic Dean, and the person overseeing the committee for which faculty representation was being sought.
