The study of psychology offers the opportunity to learn about the origins and development of human behavior and mental processes and the factors that influence change. Psychology provides a valuable foundation of knowledge important in a wide variety of fields, including human services, business, law, education, communication and health. The program in psychology may also lead to graduate preparation for professional psychology.
At least 18 semester credits must be earned in courses numbered 300 or above.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, and, when possible, the scientific approach to solve problems related to behavior and mental processes.
- Students will be able tounderstand and ethically apply basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Students will be able to demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology enabling them to better understand and apply psychological principles to personal, social, and organizational issues.
- Students will be able to recognize, understand, and respect the complexity of sociocultural and international diversity as it relates to psychology.
